Complementary employment for Cupe 4754 members

This came through on our web email … It might be of some interest to our members.

Hello,

As you may be aware, 2026 is another Census year for our country.  There are over 30,000 census positions across the country that need to be filled.  We are currently hiring enumerators, and I am hoping you can assist us by getting the word out to some of members – specifically school bus drivers.  The short-term part-time nature of the Census work complements the hours of your school bus drivers (and possibly other members).  The work schedule is flexible and would not interfere with your members primary employment.  Most of the positions I am seeking to fill involve enumerating in rural areas in southwest Saskatchewan which makes your drivers ideal candidates.

  • The primary responsibility of enumerators is to collect completed Census questionnaires from households.
    • Enumerators must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on average, as determined by workload, with the majority of the work completed in the evenings and on weekends.
    • Responsibilities include collecting data from respondents in person through door-to-door visits.
    • Enumerators receive hourly compensation of $25.87 and are eligible to claim authorized expenses, such as mileage and parking.
    • The employment period runs from May 2026 to July 2026, depending on the position and location.

If you would be willing for forward this information to your members – specifically school bus drivers – it would be much appreciated and would benefit both the Census and your members.

Please let me know and reach out with any questions or concerns.

Your bargaining committee met with the employer on Oct 1 and 2

Your bargaining committee met with the employer on Oct 1 and 2. There were some significant gains made with the non-monetary items. We have moved into monetary issues, and after a lot of discussion, the teams have agreed to continue negotiations later. We have scheduled further meetings for October 24 and 25.

Your bargaining team will continue to work toward the mandate the members have given us. We will need your support now more than ever.
